Childhood Memories

Let's face it: we all (or a very huge majority of us) have a slight weakness in resisting the powers of the dreaded...Facebook! But it just so happens that the other day I ran into one of my very favorite babysitters as a very (very) small child (when I asked her, she said I was probably two to three years old).

She was Amy, and she was amazing. She made us picnics for the backyard. She spun us round in circles so that our feet would fly up in the air and we would stumble around dizzily afterwards. I'm sure she colored with us and gave us piggy-back rides. And played dress-up and pretend with us.

And because of Facebook, I have found out that she lives on the other side of the country and has a family. And because of Facebook, I have been flooded with childhood memories: water balloon fights with all the neighborhood kids in our backyard, adventures in the field across the street from our house, sand-throwing wars with Caleb, the neighbor boy, in the sandbox, adventures in various cardboard boxes, the list goes on.

And in my 21 year old wisdom, I will simply say: let your inner child out to play every now and again. That carefree child from the sandbox making mudpies was wiser than any of us would ever have expected: say what you feel, get dirty, dance in the rain, forget what everyone else may or may not be thinking about you, throw the occasional fit(!). In short, do what makes you happy.

And all because of a chance exchange on Facebook...! Thanks Amy!
