this last weekend i housesat for some family friends. they needed someone to take care of the cats, ruth and louise, and since i am "part of the family", i was the chosen one.
this is what happened, throughout the 4 days:
not a kitty to be found. or, oh. can you see her? staying far away from me.
a little closer, but still won't look at me
too close! too close! stop rubbing on my legs! stop jumping in my lap! HEY! get off my books! i'm doing work here! no, you cannot take a nap wherever you want!
uh. oh. um. don't be mad kitty, ruth, i mean louise? ruth? pretty kitty. don't bite me! i love you! (can cats tell when you're lying?)
jungle kitty. asleep in 3 seconds flat. every time i would move her - i'm assuming it was the same one that kept jumping on my books and purring in my face - every time i would move her, i would get really scared, because my past experience with picking up cats is that they bite you and scratch you (the bennett's did not have nice cats). so i would cover up with a blanket or with my hoodie, so no skin was showing.... i'm not ashamed of being afraid of a 10 pound (is that how much cats weigh?) biting, scratching thing...
please bear with me, because drawing on paint is Hard (i have much more respect for this girl and this girl). but i wasn't fast enough to take a picture.
after kicking the cat off the table for the 7th time, she finally left me alone. a little while later some movement caught my eye. i look over and the cat is INSIDE the cupboard that i left open from getting some water earlier.
playing the victim after i kicked her out of the cupboard.
the one that didn't like me pooped in the hall. the one that liked me slept on me every night. on my shoulder (i sleep on my side usually) which can't be comfy. and i would wake up to her kneading my neck. i would get all scared, just waiting for the claws to come out and slice me open.
which reminds me of a time that i cat sitted (cat sat?) for auntie sarah. mildred was a feisty one. she liked to play before she would eat dinner, and she couldn't eat alone. no, i didn't eat catfood with her, but i had to stay with her so she could eat. well, this particular time, i was just sitting on the couch waiting for her to eat, and suddenly she jumped on my belly and looked at me with this sassy look and started purring.
ok, kitty, i will pet you if that is what you want.
more purring.
suddenly claws are out!
suddenly claws are on my neck!
suddenly cat is sort of kneading my neck with her claws, just so that they would barely prick my neck.
but if i would try to move, the claws would go a little deeper into my neck.
if i wanted to live to see another day, i was at mildred the cat's beck and call. and her beck and call was cuddle time.
which is how i came to spend 2 1/2 hours on the couch with mildred the sassy cat.
