new goal!

____________________________________

yesterday i started my 60 days of yoga goal.  since i've started doing bikram, my goal has been to do the "60 day challenge".  but there were breaks where i left and people came to visit.  there were class schedules that seemed to change every week.  there was a certain lack of motivation all around.

and i guess some of that is still going on.  but i decided that i'm going to do it anyways.

and now i'm super excited about it!  even though today was super duper hard and i am very sore (i know.  who gets sore from yoga?)

the tricky part is to work things out so that i can keep running.  which means 2-a-days.  which will be hard.  but my running muscles are just coming in, which is pretty good motivation.

2 down, 58 to go!!

also, for the record, i've lost 2 pounds since a billion years ago when i decided to start getting into super shape again!  yay!

16.

i have diagnosed myself with exercise-induced exertional compartment syndrome.  i went running on saturday.  and noticed that my shin was numb that night.  by tuesday it was still numb and tingling.  of course, i diagnosed myself by sunday morning (not that diagnosing is within the scope of nursing.  i think there are exceptions when it's self diagnosis...).

because i have exercised induced crap, and may need surgery sometime soon to return the proper blood supply to my leg, i went for a walk on sunday instead of another run.  (still having a hard time fitting all my workout time in...boo.)  and it was cloudy and windy (aka. there was a slight wyoming breeze).  can you believe it?  wind in texas?  i know.

tippy toes.

the other week i went to pj's to get her mail, since i told her i would, and also to study.  my house was too dirty.  and when it's time to study, i always clean instead of studying.  i have this thing where messes distract me, but only when i need to study.
there are some great trails near her apartment.  so i went and used them.  and i tried  toe running.  and it was so hard, and my calves were burning so bad.  and i had to go really slow (which is saying something, since in my out-of-shapeness, i run super duper slow), but my feet felt a lot better than they have been feeling.  so there's that...!

you know how this one's all blurry?  the only conclusion i can come
to is that it's my sweat... i know.  gross.   but sort of awesome too.

another sweaty one...oops

i'm a yogi bear! as in yoga, yogi. not picnic basket, yogi.

did i ever mention that i started doing bikram yoga?  i got a groupon a while ago.  and then put off going, because it's always a little scary to go the first time by yourself.

and then in december, maybe, i went and almost died.  it's 90 minutes of 105 degree weather.  they told me my goal for my first time was just to stay in the room.  and that was a lofty goal, not even kidding.

so i didn't go again until after i went home for winter break.  when i came back i planned to go about 3 times a week.  but i put it off and so had to go for 4 days straight the last week before my groupon expired.  of course, i didn't want to waste my money so i made myself go every day.

i was so dreading the last week.

and then, suddenly, on day 3, it turned from torture to therapy.  it was amazing.  i felt amazing.  i started figuring out the postures.

day 4 was even better.  it even started to feel cool.  i seriously wondered if they turned the heat down.

so i bought a membership.  and i got a discount because it was january.  and because i was on the last day of my groupon.  and because i'm a student.  and now i get to go whenever i want.

i'm working on doing many days in a row again.  and i think i'll keep going for a while.  i had a rough day at school the other day and was all mopey and didn't even try to drink a lot of water because i was too pouty to go to yoga.  then i woke up from my nap and wanted to go, because it seemed like it would make me feel better.  and it did!

the only thing is, is that i'm finding it hard to fit in my running....have to work on that, i guess.

so here is one of the poses and how it's supposed to look:

and here is how i look (plus a little bit of torture on the face):

but it's cool, because no matter how much you do, they still say you're awesome and that you're benefitting, because "you're trying."

they should probably be motivational speakers on their days off.

still going! finallllly!

i have been making oatmeal/banana/peanut butter/nutella smoothies in the mornings.  and today, before school, i woke up in time to make myself one.  i'm so proud of myself.

this is my third week of doing something every day (except for a break day).  and for some reason, even though i have an exam this coming monday, and with everything else going on, inspiration has struck, and i am ready to "just do it," as they say.  this week i'm doing 4 straight days of bikram, which is pretty intense!

i'm still going with the "non-weighing" program, which seems to be working.  yesterday my pants even felt looser.  which may or may not have been because they were stretched out from being worn.  but still.

also, i  have a new goal.  it is to drink 3 liters of water a day.  i'm up to 1.5 (so far today).  i have been drinking 1 during the day and then 1 during yoga, but that one's basically just replacing what i sweat out.  so that's what's new and exciting in my life.

soon, abs, soon...

in other news, i looked through my pictures to find something to make a blog about, and realized i now only have pictures of oni.  so, uh, my plans of having a saturday caturday are taken care of for the next 3 years.

but the rest of the time....?

new adventure, revamped.

another great find!  thanks, real simple!
______________________________________

no class today!!!!!  which means that i have an extra day to be a weekender.  aka study and clean.  i have another math test tomorrow because everyone, yes every single person in our class failed the last one, which was on the first day back from break.  a birthday exam, how sweet.  the catch was that if you didn't score a 100%, you failed....go figure, health science center....
__________________________________

remember the time i talked about my new adventure?  well, that workout didn't work, because my neighbors are jerks.  or maybe i am because i bounce around in my second floor apartment.
anyways.  i decided to not do weight goals for now, because muscle and fat have battles, and while i am starting, i don't want to be discouraged if i don't lose 17 pounds by tomorrow (and i will be).
and when i say "i am starting", yes, it means i am starting over, because i got discouraged when i didn't lose 17 pounds in one day (did you see how i broke one of the cardinal rules of english writing? hint:  look at the numbers.  i'm such a rebel....).

so my newest goals are:

  • work up to 3 miles of running
  • do bikram yoga 3 days a week (a little pricey, but if i don't go out to eat, should be FINE!!!)
  •  use my gear at least once or twice a week (gear = suspension training strappies!)
  • walk/hike on days i don't run
  • swim or bike occasionally for some cardio that doesn't kill my joints
  • take a rest day every week so muscles can CALM DOWN!
  • weigh yourself in one month (ish)
i think this one is going to work better, since it's less "physical results" oriented.

wish me luck!

the counter of calories.

i'm having a hard time with this whole "get fit thing."  for one thing, counting is hard!

first i'm eating WAY too many calories - like 2000.

then i'm not eating enough, and my "body is going to go into starvation mode and lead to weight gain and bad bones and blah blah blah" - like 900.

who knew it could be so hard??

and the whole working out/being healthy thing.  a different story entirely...
it took me 5 days of break sleeping in til noon everyday to finally feel rested enough to work out.  then i worked out for 3 days, classes started, and my feet haven't seen their horrible, blister-causing shoes since. (two days, but still....)

anyways... i will keep trying.  i found a bunch of "fit blogs", which help to make me feel motivated and workout-y all from the comfort of my couchbed!

i did buy super delicious and healthy food though.  i'm going to attempt tofu!  i'm a little nervous, but i think it will be fun.  until i burn it or cook some wax paper and throw the spatula across the room....  look for the one that says "tofu", but not ironically, or anything...

new real life adventure.

i think i saw this girl on pinterest (i may or may not be addicted).  i. was. Dying.  literally falling over from laughing so hard.  who knows - maybe it's not even funny, but definitely give her a try.

no.  it's funny.  i just watched it again and almost threw up from laughing (i did abs earlier...).
________________________________

i'm starting on a new adventure.  one i've never had to take so seriously.  i'm a little nervous.

here's the story (i will make it short, well, because it is short):
i had a little - and by little, i mean 37 pounds - reaction to the birth control i recently tried out (in april).  they told me about the usual 5 pounds.  so i kept explaining away to myself the next 5 pounds.  the last 25 have happened since i've been in texas, and i explained it away as stress/new place of residence/school.
and then it suddenly hit me:  there is no more explaining away.  maybe this "reaction" was a reaction and not me being lazy, but now i have to do something about it.  and i've never had to do anything about my weight before.  if i was having a "fat day"  i would eat super healthy, drink a lot of water, and run for 3 days, and i would be back to normal.  but not this time.  this time i'm going to have to work really hard.

and so i decided to write about it on here so that maybe i would be accountable to someone (the entire internets, all 3 of you!).  because how can you do a before without an after?  right?
i'm not quite brave enough to do a "before", but maybe when i have a "during" i will be brave enough to compare the 2.

so here is everything:

START:  21.Nov.  1*6 lb (also not brave enough to say)
     FIRST GOAL:  -6 lb
     AND:

  • 30 day thing from this place, which actually has some good workouts (and short so you can't talk yourself out of them).  it is actually only 4 weeks of 4 days a week.  it is a bit skanky, with the girls all in their pushup/sports bras, but hey, they are Fiiiitttt.  so i guess they earned their 'shirts off' rights.
  • run the other 3 days a week.
  • eat salad every day.
  • drink 6 glasses of water a day (i'll work up to 8...)

TODAY'S FIT TEST (50 seconds with a 10 second break in between)
     Squat Jumps - 32
Pushups - 1 real one and 21 girly ones
     Burpees - 11
High Knees - 122 (or 61 if you count each knee as a set)
Switch Lunges - 23 (or 11 pairs? does that make more sense?)
Tuck Jumps - 15 (i hate you, tuck jumps)
Situps - 23 (WHAT HAPPENED, ABS?  I USED TO BE SO GOOD AT YOU!!!)

i do realize that the day before thanksgiving may be the stupidest day of all time to start a serious workout.  but pretty much no day is a good day if you've lost the habit of working out and craving endorphins....

anyways.  another fit test in 30 days.  hopefully i'll make my FIRST GOAL before then!!!!!
from pinterest....
